Amos L. Parker Shihan Biography
Amos Parker Shihan began his study of Yoshinkan Aikido in 1962 under Noguchi Yukio Sensei, 8th dan, in Yokosuka, JPN. This training only lasted a few months and his training continued for the next 35 years under the guidance of Terada Kiyoyuki Hanshi. Terada Hanshi is one of Yoshinkan Aikido's original co-founders and is the last of Yoshinkan Aikido's instructors to have trained with O'Sensei. He holds the title of Yoshinkan Saikoo Komon (Chief Consultant) and Saikoo Shihan (Chief or Highest Shihan) and is only the 2nd instructor in Yoshinkan Aikido to be awarded the rank of 10th dan. Terada Hanshi's Aikido is reminiscent of the Aiki-Budo days, however still maintains the principles of Aikido as he was taught by O'Sensei, Ueshiba nidai Doshu and Shioda Gozo Kancho. This of course was transmitted to Parker Sensei who has passes this on to us.
Parker Shihan is currently the only non-Japanese 9th dan in Yoshinkan Aikido and the first foreigner authorized by Gozo Shioda Soke to be awarded the title of Shihan in Yoshinkan Aikido. No foreigner, especially an African-American, has received such a high honor in Yoshinkan Aikido. During this clinic, you will be educated in the three basic principles of Aikido. Chushin Ryoku, Shuchu Ryoku and Kokyu Ryoku. Yoshinkan Aikido teaches this through the repetitive training of kihon dosa (6 basics movements) and the 150 kihon waza and through kamae. Our basic posture which incorporates all of these elements.
