Sadly, Parker Shihan passed away on August 19, 2013. His memory and legacy lives on through his direct and indirect students around the world.

The Aikido Yoshinkan Yoseikai

The Aikido Yoshinkan Yoseikai (AYY) was group organized by Parker Shihan to promote Yoshinkan Aikido throughout North America and aboard. The name YOSEIKAI (養精会) was given to Parker Shihan by his instructor Kiyoyuki Terada Hanshi.

The character YO (養)is the same as the YO found in YOSHINKAN. SEI (精) is taken from Terada Hanshi's first name and is the same character that is used in his organization SEISEIKAI as well as many of the dojo's named by Terada Hanshi. The combination of the two characters coming together are reflective of Parker Shihan's Aikido and signify the relationship of the two major schools of thought found in Yoshinkan Aikido.

The AYY was comprised of schools that held yearly workshops with Parker Shihan or were affiliated to these schools. All instructors and their schools were required to be formally registered with the Aikido Yoshinkai Foundation.

The AYY was an organization in name but had no formal hierarchy other than Parker Shihan as the head. All examinations were based on the AYF honbu dojo grading syllabus and all certificates came directly from the AYF honbu dojo. There were no AYY certificates provided by Parker Shihan.

Today, the the former schools of the AYY operate as independent schools or as part of other organizations created by others with the goal to continue to teach aikido as handed down by Parker Shihan.
